4 Common skin care mistakes – what not to do
1. Cleansing/ washing the face :
Many people who have oily skin/ pimple prone skin keep washing their face too frequently in order to remove oil and look fresh. But, washing too frequently remove’s the protective barrier of the skin and leaves it infection prone. Washing 3 -4 times a day is found to sufficient. The second type of people who wash only once or twice a day , also suffer from skin issues as the makeup applied in the morning stays the entire day. The pollution, dust and oil secreted remains in the skin for long hours and can lead to infections. Washing and reapplying the make up in middle of the day and removing all the makeup and allowing your skin to rest at night are very important.
2. Moisturizing :
Many of the oily , pimple prone skin people avoid moisturizers as they feel it make their skin look more oily. But oily skin also needs nourishment. Thin, non oily, water based moisturizers are available which protects even the oily skin types. Those who have dry skin can also get pimples when they use occlusive thick moisturizers. So choose your moisturizer wisely. Avoid experimenting with new products and take professional help in case you are not able to figure out.
3. Sunscreen:
using a sunscreen or a sunblock which suits your skin is also very important. People with sensitive skin require sunblocks with no added chemicals. Using a sunblock is a must even on a cloudy day as the uv light is very much reflected by the clouds. Another common mistake we do is to leave the sunscreen entire day. Sunscreens need to be washed and reapplied after 3-4 hours as they get degraded.
4. Scrub :
Using face scrub too frequently abrades and damages the skin even if it is a home made scrub. Use scrub not more than once a week and never forget to nourish your skin following scrub.
